Laurel Lane's curriculum intent:
From the first day that a child enters Laurel Lane Primary School, we pride ourselves on delivering an inspiring and innovative curriculum that encourages and nurtures children, from wherever they are starting their educational journey. Our aim is that our children become educated citizens who can meaningfully contribute to making our community successful.
All the staff at Laurel Lane are passionate about fulfilling every child's potential, which enables them to flourish, reaching their full potential. We believe in developing a child's understanding by building and retaining links to prior learning, making their learning journey not a singular event, but an event that carries on and builds and supports them to become 'life long' learners.
In today’s fast-moving world, filled with obstacles and challenges, we aspire to give children a voice: to provide them with the depth of knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable them to reach their full potential. At Laurel Lane, we allow children to develop and grow, providing them with practical opportunities to practice their skills. We pride ourselves on giving the children the opportunities to develop their oracy skills: talk is the thread that is visible in all lessons. Discussion and rehearsal is paramount to success.
Our curriculum is constantly evolving to match the needs of our children and their families, community and the world. We aim to achieve a perfect balance between knowledge and skills, providing a curriculum where children can make links between new and existing knowledge. At Laurel Lane, we prepare children for their future, encouraging respect towards themselves, others and their environment, showing pride in their achievements, as well as appreciating their own uniqueness. Our diverse culture enables us to learn from each other.
